And the winners are…

HarperCollins was very proud to support the Kids News Short Story Competition, and we are even more excited to announce the winners!

Before I get to the lucky two children who will win some amazing prizes, I have to say that reading so many entries alongside our judges has definitely been a highlight of my first year as Education Manager at HarperCollins.

We read stories about zombies and refugees; fairy detectives and septic tanks; super heroes and talking dogs. The array of topics, and skill in expressing them, blew us all away. We were also overjoyed to have so many entries, nearly 2,000 in total!

A huge thank you and congratulations to all of the children who entered, as well as to the teachers and parents who encouraged them to have a go. None of this would be possible without you.

So, now to the winners…

Rose Pullinger of Tasmania was the winner of the 10 and Under category with her very funny story of what happens when wedding and septic tank collide. Click here to read about Rose, as well as her fantastic story. You can also find details of the runners up for this category on this page.

The winner of the 11 and Over category was Amaeh Reed from Cairns. Her beautifully written story depicted a refugee family’s journey to find a better life in Australia. You can read Amaeh’s story here. You can also find details of the runners up for this category on this page.
